PI: Fumika Hamada,PhD
Fumika Hamada is an associate professor in the NPB department. She received a BS, MS and PhD, all in biology, from Tokyo University of Science in 1999, 2001 and 2004, respectively. She moved to Harvard Medical School where she conducted postdoctoral research in biology and genetics from 2004-2005 with Mitzi Kuroda, PhD. In 2005, she continued postdoctoral research at MIT / Brandeis University in neurobiology with Paul Garrity, PhD. In September 2009, she began her own lab at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Her lab moved to UC Davis in July 2021
Tadahiro Goda, PhD, Assistant Project Scientist
Tadahiro Goda received a PhD in biology at Kyushu University, Japan in 2001. He worked at the National Institute for Medical Research, UK, as a research associate developing amphibian genetic approaches using Xenopus tropicalis from 2002 to 2006. He then moved to the University of Virginia to study Drosophila circadian clocks from 2007 to 2011. Since November 2011, he has worked in the Hamada Lab revealing the molecular and neural mechanisms of Drosophila temperature preference rhythms.
Eva Balogh, BS, Junior Specialist
Eva finished her undergraduate experience with a degree in Biotechnology from UC Davis in Winter of 2023. She worked for a year researching a vaccine for Melanoma during her undergraduate years, and now brings her experiences to the Hamada team as a Junior Specialist. She plans to pursue a career in medicine in the future, but is currently enjoying her time working with the Hamada lab.

Cheryl Heng
Cheryl Heng is an undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis studying Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. She is interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and research, particularly in the fields of neuroscience and pharmaceutical sciences. Cheryl started with the Hamada lab in April 2022.

Thy Pham
Thy is a Cell Biology and History major. After her undergraduate studies, she plans on going to nursing school. Outside of the lab and classes, she enjoys listening to music, crocheting, and walking around the Davis campus.
Victoria Zafra
Victoria Zafra is an undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Nutrition. She is interested in pursuing a career in research, particularly interested in protein research. Victoria started with the Hamada lab in April 2023
Rasneet Grewal
Rasneet Grewal is an undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis studying Biological Psychology with a Minor in Public Health Sciences. Her plans are to pursue physician assistant school after graduating in June of 2024. Rasneet started working in the Hamada Lab in May 2023.
Alexis Atherley, BS
Alexis Atherley is PostBaccalaureate student at UC Davis. Alexis earned her BS in Biological Sciences at UC Irvine in 2021 and began working in the Hamada Lab during Summer 2023. After completion of her PostBacc,she plans to apply to medical school to pursue a career in medicine.
Gregory Bui
Gregory Bui is an undergraduate student majoring in Molecular and Medical Microbiology at UC Davis. He plans to graduate in the Spring of 2024, with the hopes of attending medical school in the years following. Gregory began working in the Hamada Lab in the Fall of 2023.
Cora Fisher
Cora Fisher is an undergraduate student majoring in Neuroscience. She is interested in pursuing a career in research post-grad, particularly studying seizure activity within model organisms in order to better understand this within humans. She began in the Hamada Lab in January of 2024.
Galen Guo
Galen Guo is an undergraduate majoring in Biochemical Engineering and minoring in Material Science Engineering, with plans on graduating in 2026. He began his work in Hamada Lab during the spring of 2024.

Peixin "Sherry" He
Peixin He is an undergraduate student majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior at UC Davis. She joined the Hamada Lab in April 2024 to explore and develop research skills for graduate school. She is most interested in optogenetics.

Gurbani Saini
Gurbani Saini is an undergraduate student at UC Davis majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. After graduating in June 2025, she hopes to attend dental school and pursue a career in orthodontics. Gurbani joined the Hamada Lab in March 2024.
Carolina Tiscareno-Kennedy
Carolina is an undergraduate student majoring in Animal Science at UC Davis. She anticipates graduating in June 2025 and hopes to attend veterinary school afterward. During her free time, she enjoys photography, listening to music, and trying new restaurants! Carolina started working in the Hamada Lab in Spring 2024.
Richard Ramolete, BS, Junior Specialist
Richard graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a B.S. in Molecular and Medical Microbiology and a minor in English. He joined the Hamada Lab as a Junior Specialist in August 2023 in hopes of developing the skills to pursue a future PhD.

Olivia Lopez, BS, Junior Specialist
Olivia Lopez received a BS in psychobiology from UCLA in 2021. Immediately following graduation, she worked as a 7th & 8th grade science teacher in Denver, CO. She then worked at a donor tissue testing facility, Eurofins DPT, before returning to California. Her current role as a Junior Specialist with the Hamada Lab will assist in her pursuit of a PhD in neuroscience. Olivia is most interested in researching the impact of lifestyle choices on neural and physiological health.
Katherine Lim
Katherine Lim is an undergraduate student majoring in a BS in Psychology at UC Davis. She plans to pursue a career in healthcare after graduation. Outside of schooling, she enjoys spending time with her family and playing the piano. Katherine began volunteering at the Hamada Lab in January, 2023.

Phoebe Nicholas
Phoebe is an undergraduate student at UC Davis planning to graduate in 2026 with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior and a minor in Human Development. She started as an undergraduate research assistant in the Hamada Lab in Spring 2023 and hopes to one day become a nurse.
Kazim Rizvi
An undergraduate student planning to graduate in 2024 studying Global Disease Biology. Interested in clinical research and physiological research especially optometry.
Grace Heringer
I am an incoming third year. My major is Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior and I am doing a minor in Spanish. I plan to graduate Spring 2025.
Rosyln Catiis
Roslyn Catiis is an undergraduate student studying Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior at the University of California, Davis. She is interested in pursing a career in dentistry. She joined the Hamada Lab in Fall of 2023.
Anthony Yap
Anthony Yap is an undergraduate student at UC Davis majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. He aims to pursue a career in the medical field after graduating. Outside of school, he enjoys playing sports, music, and spending time with family. Anthony started volunteering at the Hamada Lab in October 2023.
Richard Ngo
Richard Ngo is an undergraduate student majoring in Molecular and Medical Microbiology at the University of California, Davis. He is currently pursuing a career in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Richard joined the Hamada Lab in Spring 2024.
Yifei Cai
Yifei Cai is an undergraduate student majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She is interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of physiology and neuroscience because they heavily influence the wellness of species, including us as humans. She looks forward to working with the Hamada Lab to expand my knowledge and better prepare for future study in graduate school.
Nimisha Shivaprasad
Nimisha Shivaprasad is currently pursuing her B.S. in Biological Sciences with a Minor in Statistics at the University of California, Davis. With a keen interest in biotechnology, she joined the Hamada Lab in March 2024. Nimisha is driven by her excitement to delve into the realms of circadian clocks, BTR, and beyond, as she advances her academic pursuits.
Kenny Tran
Kenny Tran is an undergraduate student majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. He plans on attending medical school after graduation. He loves hot pot. Kenny joined the Hamada Lab in March of 2024.
Aayiz Mansuri
Aayiz Mansuri is an undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis majoring in Global Disease Biology. He hopes to pursue a career in the medical field after graduating in June of 2027. Aayiz started working in the Hamada Lab in April 2024
